LIGNA systems is renowned for its large-scale, customized timber frameworks with clear spans of up to 70 meters, making them ideal for industrial halls, logistics centers, and aircraft hangars.
As demand grew for tailored aviation solutions, LIGNA Aviation was founded in 2014 as a specialized brand.
Since then, we have developed highly functional hangar systems, intelligent maneuvering solutions, and innovative door concepts that blend efficiency, sustainability, and cutting-edge design.
2014 – The birth of an idea
Through close collaboration with aviation customers, it became increasingly clear that traditional hangar solutions often lacked efficiency.
The most common challenges included:
• Space constraints due to inefficient hangar layouts
• Time-consuming aircraft maneuvering inside the hangar
• Lack of flexible door solutions for large spans
These issues drove us to develop entirely new solutions tailored to the needs of aircraft owners, aviation clubs, and airfields
2015 – The first AEROdisc system is implemented
A major turning point was the introduction of AEROdisc, a patented turntable that revolutionized aircraft maneuvering inside hangars.
The first AEROdisc system, with a diameter of 18 meters, was installed at Bonn/Hangelar Airfield. It proved to be a game-changer, allowing each aircraft to be moved independently without repositioning others, significantly improving efficiency and reducing damage risks.
2018 – Expansion and International Growth
With increasing demand, LIGNA Aviation expanded into international markets. Our solutions gained particular traction in regions with a strong private aviation sector.
One significant milestone was the enhancement of AEROdisc with oil- and fuel-resistant coatings, further increasing the system’s durability and safety.
2022 – The development of the AEROgate hangar door
While optimizing hangar operations, another challenge became evident: existing hangar doors on the market were either extremely expensive or technically inadequate.
Our response was AEROgate – an innovative wooden lift door that combines:
✔ Large spans of up to 30 meters for maximum hangar space utilization
✔ Flexible retrofitting into existing hangars
✔ Aesthetic and sustainable materials for a high-quality appearance
✔ A robust, low-maintenance system ensuring long-term reliability.
In 2023, the first AEROgate system was installed, offering a cost-effective, high-performance alternative to conventional hangar doors.
